Saving calculator work to your account.

The free calculator remembers everything you type — but only in one browser. Here's how anonymous work becomes a saved brand, what actually happens at sign-up, and how cloud autosave behaves from then on.

Alculator's free calculator needs no account, and it doesn't forget: everything you type is kept in your browser automatically. But browser storage lives in exactly one place. This tutorial covers where anonymous work actually sits, the automatic import that happens when you sign up, and how autosave behaves once your brand lives in the cloud.

The Short Answer

Anonymous calculator work saves itself to your browser as you type — no button, no account. Create a free account and the first time you land on your dashboard, everything you entered is imported automatically as a saved brand. From then on, every edit writes to the cloud moments after you stop typing, and a Saved ✓ indicator in the editor toolbar confirms each write.

Anonymous work vs saved brands

The calculator has two lives. Without an account, your rows, margins, and brand name are stored locally in your browser the moment you type them. Close the tab, come back next week — it's all still there. That's real persistence, with two hard limits:

A saved brand is the same model stored in your Alculator account instead: it opens from any device, survives cleared caches, and isn't bound by the anonymous cap (per-plan limits are on the pricing page). The Save Brand button in the calculator toolbar is the shortcut between the two lives — click it while anonymous and it opens the sign-up prompt, because saving to the cloud is exactly what an account is for.

What happens when you sign up

Nothing you entered is retyped. The first time you land on your dashboard after creating an account, Alculator checks your browser for anonymous calculator work and imports it automatically: your brand name, every SKU with its sizes, formats, FOBs, and per-row overrides, and your margin settings all become a saved brand. A toast confirms it — "Your calculator portfolio has been imported."

The import is deliberately cautious:

One consequence worth knowing: once you're signed in, visiting /calculator takes you straight to your dashboard — the app's brand editor is the calculator now, with the same three-tier table inside it.

How autosave works

There is no Save button in the brand editor, because there's nothing to remember to do. Every edit is queued and written to the cloud a moment after you stop typing — SKU edits about half a second later, brand and market details about a second later. Batching this way means a burst of typing becomes one clean write instead of a write per keystroke.

The editor toolbar tells you exactly where that write stands:

IndicatorMeaning
Saving…A write is queued or in flight
Saved ✓Every pending write landed; fades out after a couple of seconds
Save failed ✗A write didn't reach the cloud; stays visible until a later save succeeds

Save failed is sticky on purpose — it won't quietly disappear while your last edit is unsynced, and a toast spells out the error. Your edits are still in the page (and still in browser storage), so once your connection is back, changing any field retries the write. Closing or leaving the page flushes anything still queued, so a quick edit-and-close doesn't lose the edit.

Where your saved work lives

Saved brands live in the app, behind your login:

Each brand can also carry multiple markets — the same SKUs priced per territory — which is its own topic: Markets & Territories.

Renaming and organizing

Renaming is an edit like any other. The brand name field sits at the top of the editor; type the new name and autosave writes it — the same Saved ✓ indicator confirms it. Market names rename inline the same way.

Housekeeping happens on the brands page. Deleting a brand asks you to confirm first, because it removes the brand and all of its SKUs permanently — there is no undo. For the full toolkit — searching, exporting, deleting, and keeping a growing portfolio tidy — see Managing Your Brand Portfolio.

Your numbers deserve a home.
